Introducing Kimmie Weeks’ Projects for Youth Action International

Together, Youth Action International and HUB have set up a monthly program to support former child soldiers in Liberia, Ivory Coast and Burundi.  We identify child soldiers who have been disarmed in the target countries, and provide them specialized training, education, shelter, and micro-credit to help them start new lives.
 
These handmade crafts have been produced by Mengo Youth Progam. 

In early 2008, Youth Action International launched a major vocational training and income generating program in conjunction with the Mengo Youth Development.  This program provides training, educational scholarships and micro-credit loans to 200 young people most of them having been former child soldiers.

The youth who benefit from the training program live in the poor slums of Kampala (the capital of Uganda). 

Before they enrolled in the center, many of these young people had no source of income and slept on the streets.   With the training they receive, they are able to produce amazing crafts, which Youth Action International and HUB helps to market internationally.
